About this park
Signposted on-site as Lara Dog Park (it sits within the wider Hovells Creek Reserve), this is a large, fully fenced dog park on the outskirts of Lara — off-leash all day, with self-closing double-gated entry and no road frontage to worry about. It's split into a general dog area and a separate, more sheltered passive area with native grasses and mulched garden beds — a good option for a quieter dog or a calmer first visit.
The general area has a genuinely well-equipped agility and obstacle course — an A-frame ramp, tunnel, jump poles, weave-style poles and bench seating — confirmed on our visit and shown in the photos below. Ground is a mixed surface that drains well, and the mix of dog sizes and energy levels on our visit was genuinely varied — a good sign for socialisation.
The water fountain is a nice local touch: it features original artwork by Wadawurrung artist Billy-Jay O'Toole, recognising the Wadawurrung People as Traditional Owners of the land.

Confirmed on-site via council signage: dogs must be under effective control at all times (in sight, come when called, no threatening behaviour), and you must carry a leash and use it entering and leaving the park even though it's off-leash inside.
Declared menacing/dangerous dogs, restricted breeds and greyhounds are not permitted. Dogs must be registered and fully vaccinated, and food/treats aren't allowed in the park. To report a dog attack on-site, the signage lists 5272 5272.
Confirmed closed for regular maintenance every Wednesday between 7–9am.
General bins, a dog waste bag dispenser, seating and on-site parking are all there — but no shade over any of it, so bring a hat if you're visiting in the middle of the day.
It sits on the outskirts of Lara, and snakes may be active in the area during the warmer months — keep an eye on the grass edges.
